Continuing the Development of Ultralight Titanium Accessories for the AR-15 Platform

Project Brief

The project by TITAM builds on the previous development of ultralight accessories for the AR-15 platform. Following the successful design and validation of the first functional prototypes, the goal of the next phase was to take the entire solution further towards a final design optimized for serial production.

The main focus was on the use of advanced materials, further weight reduction, increased durability and maximizing the design for the possibilities of additive manufacturing.

Solution Development

This phase marked a major technological step forward – the key components were redesigned in titanium with a strong focus on high performance.

The individual components were redesigned using topology optimization, enabling further weight reduction while maintaining high strength. At the same time, the entire product line was unified through a unique organic design better suited to the possibilities of additive manufacturing.

Once again, the development process involved several iterations – from digital design and simulations to physical prototypes.

Key Innovations

The new generation of accessories introduces several major design and technological improvements:

  • Titanium construction offering higher strength and resistance to mechanical loads.
  • A unique organic design optimized for additive manufacturing.
  • Further weight reduction through topology optimization.
  • Minimized support structures during printing, significantly simplifying the production process.
  • Elimination of the need for additional machining.
  • Integrated functional features:
    • M-LOK interface for mounting accessories.
    • QD mount for quick sling attachment.
  • Optimized surface finishing, including tumbling and blasting to achieve a semi-matte finish.

Project Results

The result is a new generation of ultralight titanium accessories that takes the original design to a significantly higher level.

The entire product line is designed as a unified system using organic structures and is fully ready for cost-effective serial production using additive manufacturing.
